Benjamin Halpern, UC Santa Barbara and Director of the National Center for Ecological Analysis & Synthesis, will give two seminars this week on the state of the world's oceans. Halpern is a leader in efforts to understand ocean health and the potential for marine reserves to improve ocean condition in the face of anthropogenic stresses. He has led the Ocean Health Index project (http://ohi-science.org), an effort to develop and map cumulative impact assessments in marine systems at global and regional scales.
